february bloom day - 2018

It's bloom day! Man, has it been a minute since I've done one of these!  Hi, everyone!!

The very first of my early daffodils are blooming, and I snapped this picture over the weekend. It's a sign that regardless of what the ground hog said, spring is coming.

This has not been a great winter for my hellebores, and I'm not exactly sure why.  They're not nearly as full as I expect them to be this time of year, but I am seeing some new growth.  I'll try and add some extra pictures of them this afternoon.  In the meantime, I'm going to scroll through the gardens of the world over at May Dreams Gardens!

march bloom day 2016

This is one of those springs where it's mid March, and we've already seen 80 degree temperatures multiple times.  It makes me happy, but the daffodils are not fans of the heat.  I wasn't smart enough to cut the daffodils so I could prolong their lives inside.  Oh well.

Anywho, this is what was blooming in my yard on Garden Blogger's Bloom Day, the 15th of the month!

Front Walk:

Vinca Minor

Daffodils:

The heat got to these just before I took my pictures.  This wide shot does not do my rock wall justice.

 Hellebores:

Midnight Ruffles is my first 'fancy' hellebore to bloom.

The rest of the hellebores are standing tall and taking the heat pretty well.

  Wildflowers:

 Bloodroot, trillium, and bluets.

The spiderwart below doesn't count as a wildflower on most lists, but I didn't plant it, and it comes up everywhere on its own.

 Azaleas:

My first azalea bloom of the year!

first daffodils - feb 20th 2016

If you're seeing this, then thanks for not deleting me from your feed reader, blog list, etc.   Last year was just not a big garden year for me.  I don't think.  Or maybe I just don't remember.  Anywho, I stopped blogging.  It's really helpful to have these posts to look back on, so here I am again.  Whether it's reminding myself that I really have made progress in the garden, or just getting excited about spring, my blog really is a good resource...for me anyway.  I don't promise to be fully "back" by any means, but here I am.

Please feel free to say hi, and let me know what you've been up to in my absence!

{photo from last year, they haven't changed much}

daffodils

The daffodils are about done for the season, and I thought it was time to show them off a little bit. I upped my daffodil game last year, and the results make me happy.  I've been able to pick a couple of bouquets, and still have plenty of flowers blooming in the yard.   That may not sounds like a big deal, but considering where I started when I moved in, trust me it is.  I'll add a more daffodils this year, but it won't be the huge undertaking it once was.

I have daffodils in quite a few places, but the main show is along the rock wall beside my driveway.  This area was completely bare when I moved in, and eventually I'd like to make a shade border with year round interest.  It's a work in progress, but it still makes me happy.

And just for good measure, here's a picture of the vinca minor near my front steps.  It was exceptionally pretty this year, in part because I give it almost free reign.  Parts of my yard turn purple in the spring, and then the foliage dissapears into the moss, grass, and monkey grass.
