october bloom day 2014

Happy October Bloom Day.  The first leaves are starting to fall, and I still have a few blooms to share.  Yay for wildflowers and pass-along plants!

I just received this begonia, hopefully I can overwinter it.

These little daisies have multiple flowers per stem.

Wild Asters
These low growing asters are all over my front yard.
I cleared out all of the zinnias this week
to make room for some perennials.
I'm still enjoying the blooms though!
Honorable mentions:
  • The impatiens are still going strong.  Love those guys!!
  • My mums aren't looking so hot right now.  I'm not sure if it's an adjustment period, neglect, or not enough sun.  They are still blooming, but not well enough to show off.
Anyway, it's not a lot this month, but I'll take it!

  1. Great to have such colorful Zinnias, and those little wildflowers are so cute!
Even if that pretty Begonia looks dead by springtime, don't give up on it. I had one I thought was dead, but I hung it outside in the Spring with my other over-wintered plants. And lo and behold those "dead" stems began to grow again! I was going to show it on my GBBD post, but we are having so much wind, my photos were too blurry. It will be inside by November 15th, so maybe I can get a good photo then.
    Have a wonderful week-end!

  4. Hello again Emily,
I've been at your Bloom day posts that I missed while I was in the hospital. In your August GBBD post you showed little blue wildflower with no identification. You may have ID for it by now, but in case you don't, I think it is Asiatic Dayflower, Commelinaceae communis. You are going to love its nickname ....................... Mouse Ears!
    Have a great week-end!

  5. Thank goodness for Asters, right? I don't have a lot blooming in my garden except for my annual Cosmos and the Asters. Even my mums have bloomed and gone. This week it's been so rainy and windy, there might be no blooms left for next week!

Sooooo, the spammers have finally discovered my blog. I'm not sure if that means I've 'made it', but it does mean that I have turned on comment moderation for my older posts.
